# RevCent MCP Guide: `GetCustomerPaymentMethod`

Returns a specific reusable payment method associated with a customer. Sensitive credentials and complete account or card numbers are never returned.

## Operation

- API: `GET /v2/customers/{customer_id}/payment_methods/{payment_method_id}`
- Required permission: `customer:retrieve`.
- Available profiles: MCP and AI Assistants.
- Related overview: [OverviewCustomerPaymentMethod](https://revcent.com/documentation/markdown/mcp/operation/OverviewCustomerPaymentMethod.md).

## Inputs

| Parameter | Location | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| `customer_id` | URL path | Yes | The customer that owns the payment method. IDs contain 20 characters. |
| `payment_method_id` | URL path | Yes | The payment method belonging to that customer. Use its returned `id`. IDs contain 20 characters. |

MCP arguments include these identifiers. In a direct HTTP request, substitute them into the URL; do not duplicate them in the JSON body.

This operation has no request body or documented search/pagination parameters.

## MCP argument example

```json
{
  "customer_id": "CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC",
  "payment_method_id": "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"
}
```

IDs are illustrative. Substitute IDs returned by the customer and payment-method operations.

## Result and next step

The response is flat: `id`, `customer_id`, `category`, `method`, `rail`, `enabled`, `is_default`, the matching display object, and timestamps appear alongside API response metadata. There is no enclosing `payment_method` response object.

Card expiration details use `card.expiration_month` and a four-digit `card.expiration_year`; these differ from the add request's `exp_month` and `exp_year`. Full card numbers, security codes, complete bank-account numbers, and wallet credentials are not returned.

[GetCustomerPaymentMethods](https://revcent.com/documentation/markdown/mcp/operation/GetCustomerPaymentMethods.md) lists the customer's methods. [OverviewCustomerPaymentMethod](https://revcent.com/documentation/markdown/mcp/operation/OverviewCustomerPaymentMethod.md) explains categories, defaults, and saved-method selection.

API errors can include `code: 0`, `error_code`, `message`, and `result`. Use the response to determine whether the action completed; do not treat an error as a successful change.
